Surogpon Kita (We Are Connected)

The art installation Surogpon Kita (We Are Connected) responds to the 2023 Earth Day theme “Invest in our planet” by focusing on connectivity and self-identification. These ideas are represented by papier-mâché masks and assemblages of natural and indigenous materials. Sourced from local makers in the province of Bicol and gathered from forests, abaca ropes, coco coir, palaspas, cogon grass, and local vines known as balagon, are flexible materials that illustrate and emphasize the crucial task of being connected to our planet in a more organic and grounded sense. The collective, Kintab Artists Group Inc. (KAGI), advocates for actions that not only express our humanity as stewards of the earth, but also as active constituents who are capable of its protection and cultivation.
